NAM VETS ANSWER QUESTIONS
Kurt E Maag
was in Vietnam from Sept 1970 to
Sept. 1971 (one full year).
He was in the Army. He served with D&E Co. 2nd Bn. 506th Infantry 101st Airborne Div. Airmobile . He was stationed in Ist Corps area, Based in Camp Evans, sited between Hue and Quang Tri cities IN SOUTH VIETNAM.
Trained as mortarman......Became point squad leader, liked it better than mortars
He enlisted RA.....Re-enlisted to serve in Vietnam
Before he went to Nam, he
desired to serve in Vietnam and
learn what it was like, and whether the efforts our country were making
in their country and region were the right ones or what....
After Nam, he felt
very embittered, confused, and
angry, mostly at myself; but not entirely ...
Now he feels that he is a continuous work in progress, Older, somewhat wiser, and calmer now.
The best of Nam was seeing so much of perhaps the most beautiful rain forest in the world (only one i’ve seen that much of, anyway.) and somewhat of a very ancient culture...Challenging myself and others more than I had ever imagined , good and bad things...
The worst : living with the untimely
deaths of people, the immense desolation of a very beautiful country and
people like and unlike our own.
Could have been worse, Thank God
It wasn’t!
