NAM VETS
ANSWER QUESTIONS
peter a tressider
Was in Vietnam
Dec66 - Jul 69 Nov71
- Nov72
four tours
he was assigned to the 3rd
Air Police Sqdn, Bien Hoa AB, RVN & 6498th Security
Police Sqdn, Danang AB,
RVN
he was in the Air force
his job was a Security/Law
Enforcement
Specialist/Supervisor.
Responsible for perimeter security of the airbases,
as well as the safety of
all personnel and equipment on the air bases.
He Enlisted July 65, 17 days
after graduating from high
school.
he Initially didn't
want to go
which is why he joined the
Air Force. Then he realized how unpatriotic was being and volunteered
to go.
Aftervietnam, he was proud
that he had served my country well and of what he personally
had accomplished while in
Vietnam.
Being bipolar & PTSD
at 100% DAV, peter now wishes that what happened 35 years ago
would go away, but it never
will so, he immerse himself in it 24 hours a day.
THE BEST thing about nam
was Knowing that by placing the Heavy Armor and Heavy Weapons on the AF's
Inventory with 3 other Air Policemen, that there would
never be a repitition of
what happened in Korea. 900 Air Police were left behind in a rear guard
action, while the base evacuated. When they came back 2 days later only
8 men survived. Now it is a worldwide policy for the use of
heavy weapons and armor,
because the Security Forces are also Airborne. They're the first ones in
and the last ones out Also knowing that anyone who directly worked
for me never got wounded or killed, while I was there..
the worst At first not being
able to return fire and the rockets, especially the penetrators (122mm
rockets) with delay fuses. Also not wanting to make friends. When you did
lose some who was close, the pain never goes away.
