pow/mia
I have adopted FOUR POW/MIA's
The first three
are men I served with in nam.
Joe, Jim and Bob went on a simple supply run between Di An (HQ for the 595th Sig Co), Phouc Vihn and Lia Ke where the 595th had remote platoons. It was June 23,1970. On the return trip to Di An, their deuce and a half was ambushed. The vehicle was discovered later that afternoon. There was evidence of a firelight. with expended brass inside the cab and damage to the truck from small arms fire. Official government reports state that three m-16s were found jammed. It should be noted that the 595th had an SOP that no one was issued more than one twenty round clip of ammo when they left the base. I personally believe they ran out of ammo and were force to surrender. Published reports in he 80's stated that one of the men, probably Rozo, had escaped and he was living somewhere in SE Asia. This was confirmed by the US Government in 1990.
My fourth POW/MIA is the brother
of a friend
The best way to learn about "Rocky's" fate is to read the book FIVE
YEARS TO FREEDOM BY JAMES ROWE. I could put the synopsis
here but the book tells it all in a way no synopsis could, by a man who
was there ! For those of you who think you recognize the name, you probably
do! Rocky is the brother of Dick Versace who has been a college
and pro basketball coach as well as a tv color commentator.
He is also a distant relative to the late fashion designer VERSACE.

ALL FOUR OF THESE MEN ARE CLASSIFIED AS
CATEGORY ONE POW/MIAs
THIS MEANS THAT THE VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT
HAS OR SHOULD HAVE SOME KNOWLEDGE OF THE FATE OF THESE
MEN. WE MUST NOT LET THE PROSPECTS OF A BOOST TO OUR ECONOMY ALLOW
THESE MEN TO BE FORGOTTEN
