NAM VETS ANSWER QUESTIONS

RICHARD BALDWIN

was in Nam from January 1967 to December1969
WITH
Co.C 6th Engr. Co C 26th Engr. Co C 1/20 inf. 11th Light Infantry Brigade, all of them in Americal Division

.UNITED STATES ARMY,

in the I core area, in Chu Lai, Duc Pho, Doc To to name a few places, mostly operated out of Duc Pho. Quang Nai Provence

HE had a lot of jobs in Nam, here are the one's he  worked at the most. combat engineer, demo specialist, construction work, fuel tanker escort, mine sweeper for highway 1 , engineer tank commander (c e v ) that means combat engineer vehical, that covers most of it.

Richard had no problem with the war before he  went to Vietnam , he thought he  may not have to go, but he screwed up and did not register for collage in time, instead he got drafted for the Marines.Got lucky , got out of that by enlisting in the Army, being a Marinee in 67 was like a 1 way ticket, life was short for them. So he knew it was his job to serve the country sohe went  without kicking and screaming. he came home 3 different times, the first was the worst, all the protests, rejection by almost everyone, and being called a baby killer, and spit on, that crap did not sit well with him so he went back in country to be with people that mattered to him, people he could count on and they could count on him. The 2nd time was much like the first, so back he went in country. The 3rd time he did not know much about because it was a dust-off trip, came to in the hospital without much expectation of ever leaving, fooled them........  ha ha ha !!!!!!! Richard got  the last laugh on them.

Viet Nam made Richard appreciate all the small things in life that are easily forgotten, even today.
Going there was his job and he did it very well as his country asked him to. Richard went without kicking and screaming and stayed longer than most people. Richard  knows he did some good over there, helping the orphanages and the kids in them. He  also trained a lot of other guys to help keep them alive...
There was just as much good as there was bad about Nam, the country it's self is beautiful, but 1 thing he will never forget, knowing how many we lost and how it affected us, Ricahrd  wonders how the other side felt, the same and worse happened to them. He will never forget the experience or the people he was with, those who made it back and the one's that did not.
